Design and Democratizing Skills: the Center for Tactile Internet
Suppose one wants to share skills between machines and humans. In that case, some fundamental research questions arise which could be tackled technologically … but most of the questions will necessarily need a vivid interdisciplinary research ecosystem. Building this within a German University is quite a challenge. In this talk, I will oscillate between the two, sharing some enabling technology topics and introducing some of the steps we took as design researchers, the tools we used, and the goals we reached.
In the second part, I will highlight some obstacles, practices we tried and failed, and questions we could not solve. Crosslinking to societal change and artistic research initiatives helping to close the gaps and upcoming prototypes as boundary research objects will close the talk.
The goal is to make transparent what design research in this specific field could lead to, giving some prompts for further projects and discussing what we experienced as helpful for basic research to be more inclusive.
